One Year Anniversary Speech

Posted by Liv on January 18, 2012 at 1:35 PM

I'm posting my speech early because I know it'll be long. Sorry. [Blushes] If you pull a tl;dr, that's fine but you're missing out in the long run. =p

Let's begin. Firstly, one of our readers--Grazuki, also known as Michelle--passed away recently from cancer. The other day, I changed my avatar early in memoriam. The sadder part is that I talked to her recently. She posted on the thread (page 29 to be exact if you would like to look) and she said she went back and re-read it and that is was just as amazing as the first time she read it. I thanked her and told her...I told her that I hoped she would be here for the anniversary special. Unfortunately...she's not. I know however, that she would have loved to be here. Let us take a moment to remember her. Whether you knew her or not, if you're here you have one similarity to her: you were both PATH readers. Now, let's take a moment of silence.

...

Sigh. Let's make this memorable. I'm going to start off with how I originally started the speech.

When I started Perfection and the Hacker 1 a year ago, I was just being a writer. Doing what writers do. Write. I wanted a story with all description. Lying in bed one night, I came up with the plot. As I added more and more in my mind, it seemed genius. When I posted Perfection and the Hacker, it got such good reception! I was so happy. But this isn't all about me. It's about the story in general and its success. I'm not the sole reason Perfection and the Hacker is successful. I'm the author but at the same time, this would be nothing if it wasn't for you guys and God. I know I've even inspired you to take up writing yourself. That makes me happy. That ensures me I'm not writing in vain.

If I was writing in vain, I'd be sad. Even if this was the 1-year anniversary because that symbolizes I've accomplished nothing. But I have. This brings about another subject. Do I write for fame? No. And the people who are famous writers don't even write for fame. They write because it's their passion. People realize that. I'm not writing for fame. It's obvious who the people writing for fame are. You can easily tell them apart from the others. All I'll say is that the famous are not famous because they wanted to be famous. They're famous because they have brilliant minds, have penned up amazing stories and are passionate, skilled writers. That's what makes you famous. But it's like losing or winning the infamous "game". If you think about it in even the slightest, you lose. But if you don't think about the game, you win. But you don't know you win because if you're winning, you're not thinking about it. Ha! Hopefully that didn't confuse you. But that's not what this speech is about.

This speech is about commemorating the anniversary of Perfection and the Hacker 1 and helping you guys realize what a writer really is. If you haven't noticed, I'm modest. I'm giving other people credit for success. But not the credit for writing the story. Get what I'm saying? You guys have made Perfection and the Hacker what it is today. Perfection and the Hacker is still, to this day, bringing in new readers and that makes me happy as well.

It was so much fun developing the characters and writing the first book. I also loved to see your reactions and comments to each and every chapter. The whole experience of writing Perfection and the Hacker 1 was amazing and I can't wait till I repost it in the future with more description. Of course, first, I have to finish the sequel and start the trequel. I really hope you guys all stay and support Perfection and the Hacker 2 and 3. It will be more amazing than before.

I don't think I've expressed enough my major gratitude towards you guys. I'm the writer but you've made this--Perfection and the Hacker's success--all possible. PATH is in its golden age right now! I'm not trying to sound cocky or conceited so if I am, I apologize. I just really hope that this lasts almost forever. Of course, good things have to come to an end sooner or later. But that's not the case here. Perfection and the Hacker isn't leaving these boards for a while. =D

So this speech may seem short but the objective is pretty clear. We're here to commemorate the first posting of Perfection and the Hacker. After this speech, if you guys would like to share any memories of PATH and you reading it, that would be great. If not, that's okay too and you guys can anxiously await the surprises at hand.
